It's harder than it looks. I usually struggle with not going deep enough into POV. That's a ..."Clearing the pipes," hmm? That's a pretty accurate characterization of it from my point of view as well. Sometimes I think I'm clearing the pipes every time I begin a novel or story. Luckily, experience has taught me to settle POV issues and return to edit the pipe-clearing with a machete. You've made good cases for learning how POV can impact a story for the reader.
