What is #amwriting?
#Amwriting is a Twitter hashtag created by Johanna Harness. The hashtag is a shortened version of “I am writing.”
#Amwriting is an ongoing chat. You’re not expected to stay tuned-in constantly. The chat happens in the background of your writing day. It is a virtual watercooler for writers, a place where you can take a break and talk to your colleagues about your current writing projects (and theirs) before getting back to work. You are expected to pop in and out of chat as you write, so no one thinks anything of it if you disappear into your writing.
#Amwriting is a community. The writers care about one another. A website grew out of the twitter hashtag (http://www.amwriting.org) and over sixty members of the community work together to post weekday blog posts. You can also read bios of #amwriting authors and browse the many blogs and short story sites run by those writers.
#Amwriting grew from very informal beginnings to become a non-stop chat. Johanna still does her writer roll-call every morning, but the group no longer relies on her to do so. For more on the origins of #amwriting, see “Happy birthday, #Amwriting!”
#Amwriting is one of many writing hashtags. @inkyelbows keeps track of various chats and also provides information about chat clients that might be helpful to you. For ongoing chats, see her list of slow chats. For chats occurring a various times during the week, see her “week at a glance” list.
If you need more information about hashtags, this article from Twitter Moms is especially good because the writer doesn’t just explain what a hashtag is. She also explains why you might want to use them. http://bit.ly/bnyRh
If you use the #amwriting hashtag and you’d like to grab either of these badges for use on your website, go right ahead! Many thanks to @sesshabatto who designed the badges and logos for our community.
